Chicago, USA - Mold-Masters Limited, the global leader in the manufacture of leading
edge Hot Runner Solutions, announces the new Melt-Disk™ (patents pending) hot
runner system. Melt-Disk provides a simple and versatile solution for pinpoint gating in
direct side gating applications. The key to Melt-Disk’s superior processing performance
is the heating circuit design on the disk portion that ensures optimal heat control in the
gate area. The disk acts as a ‘mini-manifold’ in the cavity plate and ensures optimal
thermal conduction of the resin as it enters the gate. As the design has separate controls
for the hot runner independent of the Melt-Disk, processing temperatures can be
lowered over other technologies. The Melt-Disk’s unique expansion joint provides a leakproof
seal when heated yet is easily removed when cooled.
Perfect for such parts as pipettes, syringe barrels and needle shields, the Melt-Disk
delivers side gating for two, four, six and eight parts per drop. This system is also
available with tips angled at 15°, 30°, 45° and 60° from horizontal.

The Melt-Disk is the first such system to be built exclusively with standard components
for reduced lead times, ease of integration and fast global support. The Melt-Disk was
first shown at the K-Fair in Düsseldorf in October 2004 and is now in production using a
wide range of thermoplastic resins including LDPE, PP, P.A.6, PMMA and PC in molds
up to 192 cavities. |
