Melt-Disk™ System enable for efficient small part production
With a special focus on small part production, Mold-Masters, the global leader in hot runner technology, will continue to showcase a full range of highly effective system solutions for the injection molding industry at Fakuma in hall A5, booth 5205.
Melt-Disk™ offers highest productivity with smallest footprint
One of this year’s highlights will be the Melt-Disk™, a perfectly designed hot runner system for deep draw parts such as pipettes, syringe barrels, needle shields or smaller parts where only side gating is permitted. Main component is a disk-shaped body that is available with a 40, 56 and 60 mm diameter. An optional 100 mm diameter is also available. The nozzles body (= the „disk“) can handle up to 8 cavities simultaneously. All Melt-Disk components are part of Mold-Masters’ building set and can be individually combined. High cavitation solutions up to 192 cavities and more are available. Due to the round-shaped arrangement of the cavity groups the system configuration has an overall small footprint compared to other standard solutions.
Additional advantages are a very flexible gate design, a completely leakage free solution due to a highly reliable seal function, both, radial and axial, including heat expansion compensation, as well as a nearly perfect temperature profile based on the built-in heating circuit in each Melt-Disk.
Almost any gate position is possible
Using the standard configuration, the Melt-Disk is designed for horizontal direct gating. Further options include gating on an angle of 15, 30, 45 and 60 degree. This offers various applications to be handled with the Melt-Disk system and replaces conventional gating methods such as submarine gating.
Simple, efficient and leakage proof
A unique design feature is the double seal function between the standard nozzle and the Melt-Disk. This innovative “Melt-Transfer-Link” ensures compensation of thermal expansion like a plunger while sealing in axial and radial direction to guarantee and leakage free production – even under worse conditions. Using this simple but highly effective sealing technology not only enables for a hassle free production but also provides simple access and therefore easy maintenance of the complete system.
Not only is the melt transport guaranteed to be leak proof but also the transfer to each cavity. This can only be ensured by a high level of manufacturing quality of each Melt-Disk component to enable for a concentric equal heating along the complete disk – resulting in a very even heat expansion at start-up, during production and the shut-down process of a Melt-Disk system.
The operational safety is underlined by a 3 year warranty for the Melt-Disk heating system. When integrating with a complete Mold-Masters hot half system and purchased with a temperature controller the warranty expands to an industry-leading 10 year warranty period.
Melt-Start™ ensures flawless start-ups
To enable for complete system performance it is essential to use a temperature controller that software has all required features to handle a Melt-Disk system. The “Melt-Start” software has been developed to cover all Melt-Disk needs and enables for perfect molding results. As an integrated part of the TempMaster® MZ temperature controller series, the control algorithm automatically adjusts for correct start-up and shut down procedure for all hot runner components. Any risk of system damage or leakage through local hot/cold spots is eliminated. The software also takes care that any typical handling mistakes caused by the operator remains without any further consequences. Melt-Disk in combination with the Melt-Start software is therefore called to be “fool proof” and enables for the most comprehensive Mold-Masters warranty package. |

Melt-Disk™ system live at Fakuma |
With a large number of Melt-Disk applications in the market, Mold-Masters is proud to not only present the hot runner components but also a live system running at the booth of Wittmann Battenfeld in hall B 1 / booth 1204. On a Battenfeld toggle clamp machine TM 110/350, the system will produce PP pen tips (see Image. 3 a+b) on a 64-cavity mold built by the Austrian stationery manufacturer Rudolf Sellner GesmbH. The special challenge with this part is the low part weight of only 0,466 gram and the overall shot weight for all 64 parts of only 29.82 gram respectively. The mold is equipped with 8 Melt-Disks (56 mm diameter) with 8 gates each. For an optimal production process the hot runner system also has been set-up with a Mold-Masters TempMaster® MZ temperature controller. The high level of productivity and quality underlines the enormous system capabilities for such demanding applications.
